Product Description - Cisco IP Transfer Point
The Cisco IP Transfer Point (ITP) is a comprehensive product that transports Signaling System 7 (SS7) traffic over traditional time-division multiplexing (TDM) networks. Network operators can control their migration to advanced networks and make sure that it is aligned with business goals, only because the Cisco IP Transfer Point supports both traditional, as well as advanced networks. It offers the complete feature set as found in traditional Signaling Transfer Points (STP). Using the standards developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force Signaling Transport working group, the Cisco ITP connects to traditional SS7 nodes or IP-enabled signaling nodes and downloads this SS7 traffic to reliable and cost efficient IP networks. As a consequence, capacity and ports are freed on the existing and costly SS7 network. The Cisco IP Transfer Point acts as a signaling gateway, functioning between traditional Time Division Multiplexing networks and IP-enabled signaling endpoints. This transfer point provides a very strong infrastructure foundation for the next generation of signaling transport.
